5200 52nd Place, City Heights August 27, 12:06 a.m. SDPD 32.749950, -117.083580

Officers responded to a report of multiple gunshots fired. They arrived and found the victim, Javier Quiroz, 14, near the entrance of the Colina Park golf course, suffering from gunshot wounds. They performed CPR until paramedics arrived and took Quiroz to the trauma center. Quiroz was pronounced dead at 12:49 a.m.

Quiroz had been in the company of several friends at the Colina del Sol Community Park, two blocks away from the crime scene. He left for several minutes. His friends heard him yell for help and then the gunfire. They ran toward where they heard the sounds, finding Quiroz down on the ground.

Why he left his friends is not known. There is no established motive for the shooting, or a suspect(s). Lt. Kevin Rooney said five youths riding BMX bicycles were in the area at the time of the shooting and could be linked to this.

The victim was supposed to start his freshman year at Patrick Henry High School in San Carlos. His family states he was not involved in gang activity.

Police ask anyone with information about the killing to call San Diego police homicide detectives at (619) 531-2293 or, if they prefer to remain anonymous, San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-TIPS.
