A woman took her three-year-old daughter to a local emergency room. While filling out paperwork, staff members noticed that the girl was "stiff and discolored," according to Lt. Kevin Rooney of the SDPD Homicide Unit. They examined the child and confirmed that she was already dead, and had been for a while.
At 7:30 a.m. that morning, the father of the girl came home from work. He went to kiss his daughter before going to sleep. She was in her bed and there was no response. He didn't do anything and went to sleep. Later in the morning, the couple's other children told the mother that the three-year-old's skin had become blue. The mother didn't do anything. At 3:30 p.m, the mother drove the child to her own mother's house. The grandmother told her daughter to take the child to the emergency room.
Homicide detectives questioned and released the parents. Their other children were taken to an emergency shelter, Polinsky's Children Center. The home address and names have not been released to the public. An autopsy is being performed to determine the girl's cause of death, although no obvious trauma was observed on her body.
