Breakdown

Favorite (1) Bishop’s

Top-seed Bishop’s (10-0) finished the regular season undefeated, led by an offense averaging 35 points per game. The Knights made the always tough Coastal League look easy and feature team speed and size that goes nearly unmatched in Division V. The last time Bishop’s finished undefeated in the regular season was in 2007, also the last time they won the title.

Sleeper (5) Tri-City Christian

Tri-City Christian’s only loss came to Newport Beach Sage Hill on Sept. 10 and the Eagles (9-1) have won eight in a row headed into the postseason. Can Tri-City Christian break up the recent Coastal League supremacy in Division V? The Eagles are averaging 36 points per game this season.

First Round Upset (10) Mountain Empire over (7) Foothills Christian

After an 0-2 start Foothills Christian finished undefeated, winning the Southern League and earning a first round home game. But one of the Knights’ two losses came against their first round opponent, Mountain Empire, on Sept. 17. The Red Hawks (5-5) have won two in a row and will be looking to repeat their 19-9 win.

Star Watch RB/LB Micah Seau, Bishop’s, Sr.

Seau is a disruptive force when in the game, whether as a punishing runner on offense or fearsome tackler on defense. The 6-foot-3-inch 225-pound Seau sets the tone for the Knights’ defense, is usually one of the biggest players on the field, and is a big reason why Bishop’s hasn’t dropped a game yet this season.

Potential Matchup to See Finals – (1) Bishop’s vs (3) Francis Parker

Francis Parker has beaten Bishop’s in the finals each of the past two seasons, something the Knights are keenly aware of. If the Lancers stay healthy enough to make a run, league rival Bishop’s should be there waiting in the finals. These two teams have accounted for the last three Division V titles.
