Long Beach Poly (1-2) at Oceanside (3-0) Friday 7 p.m.
This matchup of southern California powerhouses loses a little bit of luster with Poly losing their first two to open the season – but not enough to make it any less worthy of Game of the Week honors. The Pirates have been rolling all season, but the Jackrabbits are their toughest opponent thus far – if not on the field, then by reputation alone. Poly has produced 50 NFL players – more than any other school – including current stars DeSean Jackson and Marcedes Lewis. After averaging seven points in a pair of season opening losses, Poly beat Narbonne 28-14 last week. Oceanside had their most impressive win last week, a dominant 38-0 victory over Mira Mesa. Pirates quarterback Quentis Clark has thrown for 651 yards and four touchdowns this season. Oceanside is representing the entire section in this one.

Point Loma (3-0) at Scripps Ranch (2-0) Friday 6:30 p.m.
Were it not for Long Beach Poly coming to town, this matchup between unbeateans would be the top game in the section. The Pointers and Falcons have gone about perfection quietly and won’t be able to hide after this marquee matchup. Scripps Ranch enters their home opener well-rested off of a bye week and won their first two games by an average of 26 points. Two of Point Loma’s wins have been by single-digits, including a 9-7 win over El Capitan last week in which they blocked a game-winning field goal attempt. This contest features two of the best running backs in the section – Point Loma’s Leslie Rogers and Scripps Ranch’s Brennan Clay.
Valhalla (2-1) at Ramona (3-0) Friday 7 p.m.
Valhalla hasn’t lost since the opening week of the season when they hosted east coast power Our Lady of Good Counsel. Ramona hasn’t lost this season. Something has to give when the Norsemen make the trek to Bulldog Country. Ramona’s defense has allowed less than 10 points per game and their offense is not bad either – in last week’s win over Poway, backs Tyler Jackson and Ryan Morgan ran for three touchdowns apiece. Since losing to Good Counsel, Valhalla has beaten Grossmont and Montgomery by a combined score of 62-10. Quarterback Pete Thomas accounted for all four Norsemen touchdowns last week – three through the air and one on the ground.
Mission Viejo (3-0) at Vista (3-0) Friday 7 p.m.
The Panthers welcome the Southern Section power Diablos to San Diego in another huge out-of-section matchup. Friday’s game begins a tough two-game stretch for Vista, who play Escondido on Oct. 9 after a bye week. Mission Viejo has outscored their opponents 126-21 in their three wins to start the season. The home team has won the last three games in this series, including Mission Viejo winning 42-20 last season.
Chula Vista (2-1) at Mission Hills (2-1) Friday 7 p.m.
Both teams in this one will look to bounce back from double-digit defeats last week – the Spartans lost by 17 at La Costa Canyon and the Grizzlies lost by 26 at Eastlake. Mission Hills and Chula Vista will both be in the playoff picture at the end of the year, but after this game one will have a .500 record to start the season. In the first ever meeting between these two teams last season, Mission Hills won 23-0.
