Which is the most significant division change in the San Diego Section in 2009?
With three different section champions in the past three years, Division I has been wide open. With defending champion La Costa Canyon replacing both their defensive an offensive captains this season, at least five teams look like candidates to dethrone the Mavericks.
One of those teams is Eastlake and that’s why of the seven teams changing divisions this season, Eastlake’s move up to Division I is the most significant because the Titans – semifinalists last year in Division II – are the only team out of the group that has a legitimate chance to win a section title. Eastlake returns a lot of talent from its 2008 team that was minutes away from Qualcomm Stadium, including UCLA commit and two-way star Tony Jefferson. Despite a season-opening overtime loss at Moorpark, expect the Titans to be a factor in this year's Division I playoffs.
