Madison beats Morse to pull ahead of the Central pack

Madison quarterback Lester Fontenette runs through the Morse defense

On an unseasonably warm October afternoon, Madison used a hot start to beat Morse 30-14. With the win, the Warhawks moved into sole possession of first place in the Central League.

Madison (5-1, 2-0 Central) opened the game by scoring on their first three possessions and were ahead 17-0 after the first quarter. Garrett Gallacher and Desaan Hardwick each scored rushing touchdowns for the Warhawks.

Morse (4-3, 2-1) got on the board with less than a minute into the second quarter on a Deonte Flowers 32-yard touchdown pass to James Roberts. But Madison continued their first half onslaught, scoring two touchdowns in a five-minute span to take a commanding 30-6 lead into halftime.

The second half was more even, and neither team could put up points in the third quarter. Morse made it a two-possession game early in the fourth on a Travis Johnson touchdown run, but could not get any closer than that. An interception by Madison defensive back David Lamar with less than five minutes to play iced the game for the Warhawks.

Madison hosts San Diego (2-4, 1-2) next week. Morse will look to get back on track at home against Clairemont.
