Each day, the Red Zone will preview each of the five section championship games, starting today with Division V:
Division V
(1) Francis Parker (10-2) vs (3) Bishop's (8-4) Friday 10 a.m. at Qualcomm Stadium
The first game of the day Friday at Qualcomm Stadium is a rematch of last year’s section title game, which Francis Parker won 51-22 at Southwestern College. This year, more is on the line for the Lancers, as they are expected to receive an invite to the Small Schools State Bowl with a win. Francis Parker’s do-it-all quarterback Deon Randall has had a stellar season, passing for 1,248 yards and rushing for 1,637 with 35 touchdowns, keying a Lancers offense averaging 41.6 points per game. While the Knights’ defense will be charged with slowing down Randall, establishing a ground game with back Alec Fisher will give Bishop’s the best chance at an upset.
Neither team is a stranger to the section title game, with Francis Parker making its fifth appearance in seven years and Bishop’s making their third straight appearance. Francis Parker has beaten Bishop’s three times in a row and five of their past six meetings, including twice last year – so the Knights shouldn’t have too much trouble finding the motivation to play spoiler.
