Week 3 High Five

Game of the Week - Mira Mesa (2-0) at Oceanside (2-0) Friday 7 p.m.

Both teams make second appearance on game of the week after staying unbeaten last week. Last Friday, the Marauders upset Helix 19-17 at home and the Pirates stuffed cross-town rival El Camino 34-12 at Herb Meyer Stadium. If the Marauders want to pull a Division II double, they will have to contain the Oceanside passing attack; Pirates sophomore receiver Demario Coleman leads the county in receiving yards with 296 after two games and quarterback Jordan Wynn is second in the county in passing. Mira Mesa’s two wins have each been by two points.

Mission Viejo (2-0) at La Costa Canyon (2-0) Friday 7 p.m.

After drubbing Carlsbad last week, the Mavericks begin a two-game stretch against Southern Section opponents. Of La Costa Canyon receiver Kenny Stills’ 15 receptions this season, five have been touchdowns. Mission Viejo hosts Vista next week.

Eastlake (1-1) at Mission Hills (2-0) Friday 7 p.m.

The Titans make the trip up to North County for the second straight week, following an 18-point win at Torrey Pines. The Grizzlies face their toughest test of 2008 following wins over San Marcos and Temecula Great Oak.

Helix (1-1) at Carlsbad (1-1) at El Camino HS Friday 7 p.m.

Both elite teams look to bounce back from losses last week . Lack of intensity won’t be an issue in this one. Last year the Lancers beat the Highlanders at their own place 14-10.

Poway (1-1) at Ramona (2-0) Friday 7:30 p.m.

The Titans’ loss against Santa Margarita last week was their first since 2006. They will make the trip east on the 67 to square off against the Bulldogs, whose 2-0 start should not be a surprise – last season Ramona started off 4-0.
