High Five for Week 2

Game of the Week

Point Loma (1-0) at Cathedral Catholic (1-0), Saturday 7 p.m.

As if it wasn’t enough that this matchup is a rematch of last year’s Division III title game, both teams opened the season with wins over quality competition. The Dons rolled 48-7 at Steele Canyon on Friday, with senior running back Tyler Gaffney rushing for 108 yards and scoring four touchdowns. The following day, the Pointers rallied from a fourth quarter deficit to take down Monte Vista at home 29-26. Point Loma junior running back Leslie Rogers turned in a spectacular performance, rushing for 290 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. Will Point Loma exact some revenge or will Cathedral Catholic continue to be the team to beat in Division III?

Best of the Rest

Helix (1-0) at Mira Mesa (1-0) Friday 6:30 p.m. – Both teams scored big wins over North County clubs last week and will look to keep it going.

Carlsbad (1-0) at La Costa Canyon (1-0) Friday 7 p.m. – Early season rivalry game takes place where the Lancers will play Palomar League home games later in the season.

Bishop’s (1-0) at La Jolla Country Day (1-0) Friday 7 p.m. – Division V showdown; it’s been a while since the Knights have lost a game.

Santa Margarita (0-1) at Poway (1-0) Friday 7 p.m. – Defending Division I champs look to strike a blow for San Diego football as they welcome Eagles from Southern Section.
