Escondido (6-1. 2-0 Avocado) at La Costa Canyon (5-2, 2-0) Friday 7 p.m.
The lone unbeatens in Avocado League play meet in a battle of contrasting offenses. The Cougars keep it on the ground with the best backfield duo in the section. Escondido’s backfield Ricky Seale (1486 yards, 19 touchdowns) and Tim Zier (916 yards and 15 touchdowns) are one of the reasons the Cougars have been held below 42 points only once this season. On the other side, the Mavericks will air it out with quarterback Sebastian Frausto and receiver Kenny Stills. Frausto has thrown for 1468 yards and 10 of his 12 touchdowns have gone to Stills, who has 908 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. La Costa Canyon’s defense could also pose a problem for Escondido – in their last four games, the Mavericks defense has allowed an average of 10.5 points. These teams have not met since the 2005 section playoffs.

Valley Center (6-1, 2-1 Valley) at Ramona (7-0, 3-0) Friday 7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs are one of only six unbeatens in the section, but they begin their toughest three-game stretch of the season. After Friday’s game, Ramona will play Westview and Oceanside to close out the season. The Bulldogs have dominated their opposition, winning by an average of 36 points. Bulldogs quarterback Ian Hunt has thrown for an even 1000 yards and 11 touchdowns and linebacker Tanner Hix leads Ramona’s defense with 34 tackles and two sacks. The Jaguars have scored an average of 60 points in their last two games feature the quarterback-receiver combo of Tyler Bernard and James Johnson. Bernard has thrown for 1502 yards and 16 touchdowns and Johnson averages 95 yards per game and has caught 10 touchdown passes. Last year Valley Center beat Ramona at home 31-21.
Otay Ranch (5-1-1, 2-0 Mesa) at Eastlake (5-2, 2-0) Friday 7 p.m.
Four of the six teams in the Mesa League have five wins, and these two along with Chula Vista are undefeated in league play. Both the Mustangs and Titans feature physical defenses and unique stars – Otay Ranch’s Juan Leary is a talented dual-threat quarterback and Eastlake’s two-way speedster Tony Jefferson. Last year Eastlake has won the last two contests between these teams.
Patrick Henry (5-2, 1-1 Eastern) at Cathedral Catholic (7-0, 2-0) Friday 7 p.m.
It does not get any easier in the Eastern League for the Dons, who face a Patriots team that put up 47 last week against Scripps Ranch. First though Patrick Henry will have to stop Cathedral Catholic running back Tyler Gaffney, who has 1293 rushing yards and an astounding 22 touchdowns. Cathedral Catholic has won the last four between these teams by an average of 33 points.
Steele Canyon (4-3, 2-0 Grossmont South) at Valhalla (6-1, 1-1) Friday 7 p.m.
In a league where Helix has continued their domination, this is the battle for the second spot. The Norsemen bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 31-7 win over Monte Vista last week. Meanwhile the Cougars have been doing it with defense, pitching a shutout last week and allowing only 14 points combined in their last three games. Steele Canyon has won the last two in the series.
