Quick Hits: Division II unbeatens

A quick look at Division II, which has four teams without a loss after Friday's action.

Oceanside (4-0, 1-0 Valley)

This Week: W 42-10 vs. San Marcos

Next Week: Friday vs. San Pasqual (2-2)

The Pirates have not slipped at all this season following their state championship last year. Until Oceanside gets beaten, they are the best team in the county. After a close 26-23 win over Eastlake to open the season, wins over El Camino and Mira Mesa have been more comfortable. The Pirates have beaten defense through the air – senior quarterback Jordan Wynn has thrown for 863 yards and seven touchdowns in their first three wins. Four of those touchdowns have gone to sophomore Demario Coleman, who has 19 receptions for 462 yards.

Westview (4-0, 1-0 Valley)

This Week: W 60-20 at Orange Glen

Next Week: Friday vs. Valley Center (4-0)

The Wolverines have had a flair for the dramatic early this season. In their first two games of the season, Westview won despite trailing in the fourth quarter. Junior quarterback Tommy Hansen has led the offense, throwing for 724 yards and six touchdowns. Hansen’s favorite target has been senior Steven Sousa, who has 343 receiving yards and five touchdowns in the first three games.

Bonita Vista (4-0)

This Week: W 31-0 vs. Mount Miguel

Next Week: Friday vs. Patrick Henry (4-0)

The Barons opened the season with a trip to Hawaii, and maybe that trip has been the secret to their success. One thing that is not a secret on this team is their ground attack, led by junior Bryan Montrueil and senior Ibrahim Hassan. Montrueil has rushed for 308 yards this season and Hassan has rushed for 291. Bonita Vista can also throw – quarterback Hector Castellanos has completed 57 percent of his 44 pass attempts.

Patrick Henry (4-0)

This Week: W 21-7 vs. Hoover

Next Week: Friday at Bonita Vista (4-0)

The Patriots have won their first three games by a combined score of 97-18, including a 42-0 shutout of Southwest. Senior running back William Dabbert leads the team in rushing, with 328 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, senior linebacker Joseph Giordano has a team-leading 34 tackles and an interception.

Lincoln (4-0)

This Week: W 37-24 at La Jolla (2-2)

Next Week: Friday at Mission Bay (2-2)

The Hornets haven’t been tested thorugh their first three games, averaging 56 points per game and allowing just more than five points per contest. The section will see if Lincoln is for real when they start league play in the Eastern League, which features unbeatens Cathedral Catholic and Patrick Henry.
