Game of the Week
No. 10 Fallbrook (4-6, 2-3) at No. 7 Mira Mesa (6-4, 3-2) – Division I
The Marauders played one of the section’s toughest schedules and are hoping that will payoff in the postseason. The Warriors have gone 4-3 since losing their first three. Both quarterbacks, Mira Mesa’s Kevin Ozier (1078) and Fallbrook’s Tim Welsh (1545) have thrown for more than 1,000 yards this season. Turnovers could play a big role – Fallbrook needs to hang on to the ball to have a shot. Winner gets Escondido.
No. 9 Otay Ranch (5-4-1, 2-3) at No. 8 Vista (6-4, 3-2) – Division I
Both teams rely on strong quarterback play and physical defenses. Could come down to Panthers’ home field advantage. Winner plays top seed La Costa Canyon.
No. 12 Hoover (5-5, 2-3) at No. 5 Westview (8-2, 4-2) – Division II
Cardinals coming off big win over Serra. Can Hoover stop Westview’s Tommy Hansen and Steven Sousa? Westview’s only losses came to Oceanside and Ramona.
No. 11 Monte Vista (5-5, 2-3) at No. 6 Serra (7-3, 4-1) – Division III
Conquistadors are the best second half team in the county. Monarchs quarterback Maurice Payne can do it through the air and on the ground. Four of Serra’s wins came by four points or less.
No. 11 Grossmont (4-6, 2-2) vs No. 6 Bonita Vista (6-4, 1-4) at Southwestern College – Division II
The Barons ended a four-game slide last week against Hilltop; the Foothillers had a two-game winning streak snapped last week. Bonita Vista’ Bryan Montrueil has emerged as the best back in the section’s best backfield.
