SDSU destroys SD Christian

SD Christian is no match for big brother SDSU on the hardwood court.

SDSU destroyed San Diego Christian 91-57 at Viejas Arena on Tuesday night. The Aztecs were not slowed down at all, playing without Winston Shepard who began serving his 3 game NCAA suspension for ‘Improper Benefits.’ The Aztecs, up 49-24 at the half, didn’t let up in the second half despite rotating their bench in heavily. Despite shooting poorly from the free throw line (59%) once again, the Aztecs dominated in every facet from start to finish.

Game Notes:

Chase Tapley and Jamaal Franklin continue where they left off. Tapley’s mid range and 3 point shot continue to be stellar, shooting 50% from the field last night. Franklin continues to dominate lesser opponents, scoring 28 points and rebounding the ball 12 times against SD Christian.

As long as the Aztecs have a true height advantage, they can be dominant. The Aztecs had 10 blocks against a much smaller San Diego Christian team. The Aztecs utilize their height advantage very well when they have it. This will only continue further when James Johnson becomes eligible after the fall semester.

Aztec dominance against California schools continues. SDSU has won 24 straight games against schools from California. This will be put to the test soon though as looming road matchups against USC and UCLA are scheduled in the next few weeks.
