Here is the best way to determine if following the Miami Heat/Dallas Mavericks championship series is a cultural necessity. All we need is the answer to one question, to wit: Who is sitting courtside?
Props go to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel for keeping track. After two games, both played in Miami, the celebrity courtside count is: Lil Wayne, Serena Williams, Julius Peppers (defensive end for the Chicago Bears), Gloria Estafan, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Gabrielle Union, and Queen Latifah.
Fine, upstanding, people all. Talented people all. Millionaires all. But, face it, not one is Celebrity A List material.
Is it too early to call this series a celebrity failure?
Probably, almost certainly, this is a celebrity failure series, I mean, if Miami is that celebrity poor, Dallas is, well. . . who would want to live it Dallas? Nobody. But, for charity’s sake, let’s hold off on final judgment until we see who Dallas draws to their first home game. Tip-Off is set for 5:00 p.m.
