Cathedral Catholic players swarm head coach Sean Doyle after the Dons captured the Division III section title at Qualcomm Stadium on Dec. 5. Cathedral Catholic’s streak of five straight section championships is now the longest in the section.

Four

Christian running back Trenton Sauls sticks the landing between two Santa Fe Christian defenders in Coastal League matinee on Oct. 29. The Patriots fell to the Eagles 48-34 in Solana Beach but exacted revenge by the end of the season, winning the rematch 32-29 in the Division V Finals.

Three

A colorful East County sunset provided background during the Eastlake-Helix showdown on Sept. 2. Helix fell to Eastlake 21-14, but went on to win its final 13 games and the Division II State Championship.

Two

Kearny players rip through the banner after halftime during a Central League game against San Diego on Oct. 21. The Komets streaked past the Cavers in the fourth quarter, rallying from a 12-point deficit to win 28-25 in one of the most thrilling games of the season.

One

Mission Bay receiver JaQuan Madyun hauls in a touchdown pass in front of Hoover defensive back Michael Picot in a rain-soaked Western League contest on Nov. 4. The cameraman avoided being flattened just after the picture, when Picot shoved Madyun out of the back of the end zone.
