Elderly father in Ensenada, Baja California gives up his young son

Translated by Fulano from an article in Ensenada.net

ENSENADA - The physical limitations of an elderly man, which left him in a poor state of health, brought him to decide to turn over his 10-year old son to a shelter for care, so he called the authorities Thursday afternoon from his home in colonia Aviación.

According to information from the police, at 12:18PM a call to Central Command from avenida Pípila, between Coral and Bulevar Carranza, said that an elderly man was asking for help from the Family Violence Prevention Unit.

Agents from that unit arrived at the home, where Guillermo, 63-years old, explained that due to his diabetes, hypertension and that he cannot walk well because of the ravages of a stroke he had seven months ago, he no longer has the strength to care for his son.

According to Manuel Careaga, a neighbor, the boy had some problems in school, as there were occasions when due to his physical limitations, the father could not take him to school, and they have been living alone for several months.

After thinking about the future of his son, Guillermo decided to put him in a shelter.

For this motive, the child was taken to a temporary shelter under the supervision of child protective services. At the shelter, the agents gave father and son a few moments to say goodbye.

It should be mentioned, that after giving up his son, Guillermo entered a care facility on his own account.
