Matt Potter has sent along a new version of March Madness. This has all the brackets of the teams. However, the winner of each game is determined by how much the school spends on lobbying, not by the score of some silly basketball game. San Diego State survived the first round. It spends only $35,000 on lobbying, but its opponent, Northern Colorado, doesn't spend anything. But in the second round, the Aztecs get routed by Penn State, which spends $430,000. (In the real tournament, Penn State has already been knocked out and the Aztecs beat Northern Colorado 68-50 today.)
San Diego does have a big winner. Rep. Darrell Issa is the richest person in Congress, worth an estimated $451.1 million, according to the Open Secrets blog, also sent along by Matt. In second place is Rep. Jane Harman of California, worth $435.4 million. Sen. John Kerry is fourth with $294.9 million. Sen. Jay Rockefeller is ninth at $136.2 million and Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California is tenth at $108.1 million.
