The San Diego Workforce Index, assembled by the Workforce Partnership, spurted 1% in February, its biggest jump since November, 2009. The index leapt to 83.75 in February from 82.95 in January. The most positive component of the index was a 2% increase in the index of leading economic indicators published by Alan Gin of the University of San Diego. The county's unemployment rate declined in the month, as did first-time filers for unemployment insurance. However, temporary employment receded, as did the Conference Board's index of consumer confidence for the Pacific Region.
