San Diego County added 8,400 jobs in May, sending the unemployment rate down to 10% compared with a revised 10.4% in April. Government jobs rose 4,300, and 3,400 were federal government positions. The Employment Development Department says those jobs were greatly part-time Census workers, but it doesn't know how many they constituted. Leisure and hospitality jobs were up 2,000 in May. Manufacturing was up 300. But retail jobs were down 3,200, and trade, transportation and utilities were the biggest losers, down 4,400.
