U.S. Attorney Karen P. Hewitt said today (June 2) that she will resign from the Department of Justice to join the San Diego office of law firm Jones Day as a partner. Jones Day, whose managing partner is based in Washington, D.C., is the second largest U.S. law firm. Hewitt served as U.S. attorney in San Diego beginning in early 2007, and was with the Justice Department 18 years. Her successor as U.S. attorney, Laura E. Duffy, was sworn in today by Chief Judge Irma E. Gonzalez of federal court.
