AmeriChoice, which services County of San Diego health programs, has warned employees of a possible security breach. In a letter dated March 30, AmeriChoice told employees that in 2007, the company hired an individual who used another person's identity in applying for the job. The employee had access to the county database, including name, address, social security number, birth date, and claims data on an employee. The person resigned after being confronted by law enforcement, but has refused to be interviewed. AmeriChoice says it has no evidence that the ex-employee improperly accessed private information, but it believes it should warn employees. I tried unsuccessfully to get more information from the company this afternoon (April 20).
