Tom Blair is ending his 15-year reign as editor of San Diego Magazine, according to SanDiego.com. Yesterday (April 9) he told the staff that he had tendered his resignation to Maureen Sullivan, president of the magazine. He will stay on for a couple of weeks. He is apparently headed for another position that will be announced in June, according to the memo. San Diego Magazine is for sale; among rumored buyers is Platinum Equity, the Beverly Hills private equity group that owns the Union-Tribune, is rumored to be among candidates to buy MiraMax, and has failed in attempts to buy the Boston Globe and Business Week Magazine.
Blair started with the Tribune in 1972; he was an assistant to columnist Neil Morgan and often wrote the column. In 1982, Blair became three-dot columnist for the Union. He continued after the two papers merged in the early 1990s. In the mid-1990s, Blair became one of the hosts of the morning program on KUSI-TV. This rankled U-T management and he departed for San Diego Magazine. The gig with KUSI didn't last long.
