The La Jolla Light has reported that the Copley Library in La Jolla has been sold for $3.75 million. It was originally listed by Copley Press for $5.4 million after the Union-Tribune was sold. The company's former La Jolla headquarters was originally listed at $11 million and has been dropped to $9.85 million, as reported in my column several weeks ago. The buyer of the library is La Jolla financier Kevin Kinsella, who told the Light that he would "maintain the library for my collection of art, books and fossils and as an exhibit for things of significance to La Jolla." He added, "I have going on six years of memorabilia from all the Jersey Boys shows, the Tony Awards and the Olivia Awards and the gold and platinum CDs." Initially, the library was advertised as a potential residence. That would have required that it be gutted. The contents of the library -- mainly valuable Americana -- will be auctioned by Sothebys. The first auction is April 14.
