The Vancouver Sun brings word of yet another San Diego cocaine connection. This one involves Ryan Wedding, a 27-year-old Olympic snowboarder who placed 24th at the Salt Lake City Games of 2002 and hoped to compete in 2010 in Vancouver.
The paper describes how Wedding and two alleged co-conspirators were snared by the FBI at a hotel here last June. Now in custody awaiting trial, Wedding maintains his innocence.
"Wedding, 27, is fighting to have the case against him dismissed because of 'outrageous conduct' by the American government, which he alleges used a violent former KGB agent as an undercover operative."
"The FBI alleges Wedding works for a B.C. drug lord who is under investigation in the U.S. for distributing large quantities of cocaine — up to 20 kilos a week — and laundering millions each month in crime proceeds."
According to an FBI affidavit filed in the case here, the defendants, including Wedding, arrived at “a San Diego Hampton Inn Hotel while driving in a 2008 Toyota Prius”
