The U.S. Attorney's office today (July 7) unsealed a 25-count indictment charging six individuals with defense contracting fraud related to the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). Two of its employees, Gary Alexander and his wife, Kelly Alexander, accepted cash bribes and other items of value from people seeking government contracts. Elizabeth Ramos and Louis Williams, owners of National City's Technical Logistics Corp., were charged with paying bribes. They got $4.8 million in contracts during the nearly eight-year fraud period. The indictment charges that Jackie Godwin, formerly of San Diego's Kratos Defense Security Solutions, and Sinthia Nares participated in the alleged scheme. The Alexanders were also charged with filing false tax returns. In April, Pamela Banks, who had a working relationship with Kratos, was sentenced to two years in prison for bribing a SPAWAR official. She had pleaded guilty to bribing Gary Alexander in exchange for contracts.
