Mina Brees, prominent Texas attorney and estranged mother of Drew Brees, former Chargers quarterback (now with New Orleans), has died in Colorado, according to Texas media. Her business records were recently subpoenaed by the Texas attorney general's office after she sent letters to Houston and Austin restaurants saying that they had lost the legal rights to their businesses' names, but could get them back for $25,000, according to the Austin American-Statesman. A son said he did not know the cause of death. The Texas Restaurant Association had alerted its members to Mina Brees' activities. She had lost an election to the state 3rd Court of Appeals in 2006. Drew Brees had asked his mother to stop using his likeness in ads. He said the relationship with his mother had soured and was non-existent.
