Single-family home prices continue to decline, according to Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller data released this morning (Sept. 30). Over the past 12 months, the index of San Diego homes declined 25%, fifth worst among metro areas in the compilation of 20 cities. Both Phoenix and Las Vegas declined more than 29%, Miami more than 28% and Los Angeles more than 26%. San Diego home prices have now plunged 31.2% from their peak in November of 2005, according to Case-Shiller data. As a whole, the top 20 markets dropped 16.3%. Standard & Poor's said there are signs of a slowdown in the rate of decline across metro areas, but no evidence of a bottom in housing prices nationally.
