San Diego news media have not been reporting the sins of their reporters. On April 28, Milan Martinic, 47, of Ramona, pleaded guilty in Jacksonville, Florida, to wire fraud. He was running a Ponzi scheme that fleeced more than 20 investors of $6 million. The maximum penalty would be 20 years behind bars, although he is unlikely to get that. He was a free-lancer with the Ramona Sentinel, which has not reported the matter. Maureen Robertson, editor of the newspaper, says that according to the Department of Justice, the scam went on from 1998 to 2005, "before Martinic showed up in Ramona, that I am aware of...As soon as I found out, the publisher and I determined that Martinic should no longer write for the Sentinel." But partly because it was not a California case, it was not considered newsworthy. Local TV station KUSI has not reported that its star of "Good Morning San Diego," Rod Luck, was arrested over the weekend for allegedly punching a female partner in the mouth Friday evening in a San Francisco hotel room. Steve Cohen, news director of the station, says KUSI has not mentioned the incident "because it is a personnel matter. He is still an employee but is on leave."
