The City's 2005 certified financial audit has been delayed for a long time. The mayor's office says it's an urgent matter. On Tuesday, it was to be considered by council. But Mayor Jerry Sanders's toady, Council President Scott Peters, had more pressing matters: politics. He stopped the council meeting at 11:30 a.m. so he could rush off to a debate among city attorney candidates. (Yes, even though he was a key figure in the City's falsifying of information in bond prospectuses, he is running for city attorney. Only in San Diego.) Then again at 5:30 p.m., Peters stopped the council meeting. He had to run off to try to get the backing of the Democratic Party. (He didn't get it.) The council does not meet next week. So it will be late March before council considers the 2005 audit again -- that is, unless Peters is dashing off for more politicking.
