In an announcement to employees today (July 24) Union-Tribune president Gene Bell said, "the Copley Press is announcing today that it is exploring strategic alternatives, a phrase usually associated with putting a company up for sale." Bell said that a sale of the company and its largest asset the Union-Tribune is the most likely alternative but not the only one.
