On Thursday, I phoned Alan Bersin, and agreed to email him questions about his large investment in a Montgomery Field building close to the controversial Sunroad building. I was interested in whether his loaning of an executive to Mayor Sanders to lobby the FAA so Sunroad could keep its illegal 180 foot building was a conflict of interest, since Bersin had up to $1 million in a building 5 minutes away. I asked him if he might have disposed of the investment before agreeing to loan the executive in March, in which case there would have been no conflict. I also asked him whether he should have been an avid supporter of the $300 million ballpark subsidy in the 1990s, since he was superintendent of schools at the time, and schools compete for public funds. He and his family owned big chunks of real estate near the ballpark. I asked for a reply early Thursday evening. On Friday noon he emailed a this reply: "Are you kidding?"
