According to a rumor racing around City Hall, Richard Haas, who heads public works, has resigned. I cannot yet get anyone to confirm it officially, and have not been able to get directly to Haas. If the rumor is not true, I will post a followup. Haas is in charge of some of the most important City operations: engineering and capital projects, water, metropolitan wastewater, general services, and environmental services. If it is true that he has resigned, he follows numerous other topside officials who have left: the chief operating officer, the assistant chief operating officer, real estate czar, purchasing and contracting director, and auditor & controller.
