San Diego chef Brian Malarkey will be a judge and team mentor on ABC’s new reality/cooking competition show The Taste, which premieres January 22, 2013 at 8:00 pm.
Malarkey joins fellow judges Nigella Lawson, Ludo Lefebvre, and Anthony Bourdain as the coach of one of four teams of professional and amateur cooks. Each episode, the groups face themed team and individual challenges, culminating in a blind tasting by the judges and elimination round.
Malarkey’s restaurants will hold Tastings, where guests can watch the week’s episode each Tuesday from 7:30 – 9:30 pm in the bar and lounge areas. Bites and cocktails representing the show’s weekly theme will be offered.
Malarkey, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Portland, worked in several restaurants in Los Angeles, including Chef Michel Richard’s Citrus, before being hired to open The Oceanaire Seafood Room as Executive Chef/partner. While at Oceanaire, he was cast on Bravo’s Top Chef Miami, ultimately finishing fourth out of fifteen contestants.
Since his Top Chef experience, Chef Malarkey has opened five restaurants under his Fabric of Social Dining concept, as well as Green Acre eatery and Campine catering.
