Thursday, November 8
4 p.m. – Ommegang vs. The Lost Abbey It’ll be a West Coast/East Coast thing when the beers of Cooperstown, New York’s Brewery Ommegang go up against San Marcos’ The Lost Abbey at Sublime Ale House (1020 West San Marcos Boulevard, San Marcos). Customers will blind taste beers in different categories where the breweries’ takes on different Belgian styles go head-to-head. West side!
5 p.m. – Societe the Apprentice, The Bruery the Master The key to Societe Brewing Company’s early success has been everything that preceded the operation’s debut—namely, training at big-name breweries, including Placentia, California’s The Bruery. This special beer dinner will pair beers, food, and brewers from both companies at Urge Gastropub (16761 Bernardo Center Drive, Rancho Bernardo).
6 p.m. – Hess Brewmaster’s Dinner Despite being small, Hess Brewing has gained a big following. They’re close to opening the doors to their big, new facility in North Park, but until that happens, their beer remains tough to get a hold of. Enjoy five of them along with Southern-tinged fare at a seven-course dinner with brewers Michael Hess and Nate Sampson at Local Habit (3827 5th Avenue, Hillcrest).
6 p.m. – West Coast Challenge The hop-forward India pale ale is the signature style of San Diego. Brewers from AleSmith, Ballast Point, Green Flash, Mission, Port Brewing, and Stone will put their most potent IPAs forward for a competition at the Hotel Solamar's (435 6th Avenue, Downtown) Jsix where hopheads will gather to cast their votes on whose lupulin-laced liquid assets are worthy of top billing.
