Wednesday, November 7
3 p.m. – 4th Annual Fling Golf Tournament Want to do more than drink with a brewer. How about engaging in a bit of semi-athletic competition? You can do so at this Frisbee golf tournament, which takes place at Morley Field and ends out with a post-tourney get-together complete with a special competitors-only cask at Hamilton’s Tavern (1521 30th Street, South Park). Game on!
5 p.m. – Hillcrest Beer Tour Steel yourself and prepare for a long night in Hillcrest, starting with a stop at the neighborhood’s first craft brewery, Hillcrest Brewing Company (1458 University Avenue, Hillcrest). From there, venture forth to 11 other bars and restaurants including HBC’s sister operations, Gossip Grill, Baja Betty’s, and Urban Mo’s, all of which will be offering tastes of local beers.
5 p.m. – 12 Brewers, 12 Casks, 12 Mallets It’s a weekly tradition for the brewers at Stone Brewing Company (1999 Citracado Parkway, Escondido) to offer up specially prepared casks to thirsty patrons at their on-site bistro. For Beer Week, a dozen specialty casks from 12 of their brewers will be simultaneously tapped then made available over a two-hour span, ensuring lots of beer and no shortage of variety or brewing ingenuity.
6 p.m. – Avery Beer Dinner Just a year on the local beer scene and already Sublime Ale House (1020 West San Marcos Boulevard, San Marcos) is making big friends in the brewing world. That includes artisans from Colorado’s Avery Brewing Company, who are coming out for a five-course beer-paired dinner including specialty brews like Dugana double IPA and Old Jubiliation English old ale.
Note: Brandon Hernández is professionally affiliated with Stone Brewing Co., however, the opinion above reflects his personal opinion on the quality of the event the company is holding.
