5 p.m. – Night of a Million Zillion Speedways No, it’s not a NASCAR event. It’s an annual event at O’Brien’s Pub (46646 Convoy Street, Kearny Mesa) that draws droves of imbibers looking to savor scores of inventive variations on AleSmith Speedway Stout, an imperial stout that’s one of San Diego’s most celebrated beers. Expect vanilla, chocolate, and peanut butter versions, plus Kopi Luwak. Never heard of it? Read on.
6 p.m. – Beers & BBQ It’s more than dinner at Phil’s BBQ (3740 Sports Arena Boulevard, Point Loma), not that there’s anything meager about that. But this is even better. Head past the line snaking the ‘cue hotspot's exterior and over to their hospitality room for smoky mammalian fare and craft beers from numerous local brewing companies.
6 p.m. – Beer vs. Wine Election Night Voting for who will lead our great nation gets one little more than the hope their vote actually means something and a piddly sticker. Meanwhile, Urge Gastropub’s (16761 Bernardo Center Drive, Rancho Bernardo) beer versus wine banquet will get diners four courses of grub, craft beer, and wines from sister resto The Barrel Room. God bless America!
7 p.m. – The Lost Abbey Beer Pairing Dinner Beer dinners are fun, but beer dinners where brewers are along for the ride are best. Not only can you ask questions and laud them with compliments, but they bring the best stuff. Down nearly a dozen of The Lost Abbey’s finest beers with director of brewery operations Tomme Arthur over eats at Churchill’s Pub (887 West San Marcos Boulevard, San Marcos).
