Like something out of an early ‘90s Disney movie, Sicilian Thing Pizza in North Park is introducing a new pizza in April called “The Und1sputed Ones” to benefit San Diego’s premier fight gym soccer team of the same (and equally cheesy) name.
50% of the month’s proceeds from the new pie, which is set to be unveiled on Tuesday, April 3, will go towards sending The Und1sputed Ones to four summer European Amateur International Friendly competitions.
Sicilian Thing will also hold an all-day fundraiser on Wednesday, April 25, from which 20% of all food sales will benefit the team.
“This is the first time we’re creating something brand new for fundraising,” says Paul Wanushek, owner of Sicilian Thing Pizza. “We support North Park Little League, YMCA and others, but it was the Und1sputed Ones who raised the bar and suggested something really big. Our menu has pretty ambitious items already like ‘The Thing’ and ‘Barack-Oli’ named for our president. So this will be hard to top.”
"The Und1sputed Ones have come so far so fast with so little and are so proud to represent North Park and all San Diegans in the International Arena,” says Janice Jordan, spokesperson for the Und1sputed Ones, who are based out of the Und1sputed Fitness and Training Center on Ohio and University. “And we’re glad that Sicilian Thing and other local businesses have embraced the ‘Thinking Global? – Support Local!’ philosophy by helping with this fundraising effort.”
Sicilian Thing makes some of my favorite pizza in town and, every Tuesday, offers a total knockout slice and craft pint combo for five bucks.
