Chef Scott Cathcart of Beaumont's Eatery in Bird Rock recently unveiled some new items for their winter menu, including a slew of new drinks.
New libations include: 40 Love, Cinnamon Girl, Scarlett Begonia, Rosemary Collins, and Sicilian Smash, ranging from $9 - $11.
Hearty, earthy flavors seem to be the order of the day on the updated menu: Caramelized Pear & Burrata Flatbread, Butternut Squash Fettucine, Oven Braised Beef Poutine, Roasted Chicken Pappardelle and Prime Short Ribs Bourguignon. Tasting plates run $9 - $15 or so, and entrees go from $11.50 - $25.
I was there at lunchtime though, so I opted for a Diablo Michi Lada ($5) and a Beaumont Burger ($12.50).
This burger is 1/2 lb. of Angus beef, veal and pork. The combination of meats and the fine grind gave it a flavor reminiscent of meat loaf, but with a heartier texture. It was garnished with sun dried tomatoes, balsamic glazed onions, feta cheese, and basil aioli. The patty itself needed a little salt and pepper mixed in with the meat, but the toppings provided tanginess from the balsamic vinegar and tomatoes, and saltiness from the feta. It was cooked medium rare to order.
The fries looked pale, but looks were deceiving - they were crisp and hot, nicely salted.
I saw one item on the menu that I have to go back for. The Keith Richards - four espresso shots, Mexican chocolate, topped with foam. Mother's little helper, indeed.
