Whoo hoo.
What a deal.
Popped in to Stout Public House (1125 6th Avenue, downtown, 619-702-7933) during happy hours (which are long and easy to remember: 4-8:00 p.m., seven days) to grab a bite and a pint before I jumped aboard the Blue Line trolley half a block away (5th Avenue stop).
This was about six. Guy next to me was having chicken tenders. So what thu heck. Ordered me a happy hour plate of them ($3.50 for four with honey mustard dip), and a pint of Guinness (seeing as how this was an Irish pub, and the guy pouring them was an Irishman, Mark, one of the owners. And seeing they didn’t have a Stone Arrogant Bastard).
Mark
You have to pour Guinness slow, of course, and while Mark’s pouring, I’m pouring over the happy hour menu.
And huh: sliders, which normally go for the great price of $3, are now $2.
This I gotta try. So I order up one, and when it comes, hands down, it beats the tenders by a mile.
Slider and tenders
One, it’s big for its size, two, it’s angus beef, and three, I take a slab of cheese for 25 cents more. Talk about Two Buck Chuck! It’s a heckuva bite.
Mark says the ultra-tender bun is Hawaiian bread.
So hey, if you’ve got two bucks to rub together and you’re hungry, for my money, the bucks stop here.
Warning: It's hockey season, and trust me, Stout is Hockey Central. Don't expect to see anything but flying pucks and monster ice collisions on the TV screens.
