The most mysterious thing about Mystic Mocha in University Heights is where in the heck it's located. Tucked into a tiny spot on Mission Blvd. between Alabama and Mississippi Streets, it's easy to pass up two or three times. Especially when you are a bit cartographically challenged.
Mystic Mocha is a neighborhood breakfast/lunch place, with a nice selection of homemade muffins, scones and coffee drinks. Hot, made to order dishes include french toast, breakfast burritos, quesadillas, scrambles and chilaquiles.
I ordered blue corn chilaquiles ($7) and an Americano ($1.75), and took a look around. There's a nice dog friendly patio area (kid friendly too), and lots of artwork/tchotchkes/weird hanging stuff to keep you entertained while you wait. I also found an interesting book on watercolor techniques to peruse while I sipped my coffee (which was okay).
The chilaquiles were very good, lots of cheese, crunchy blue corn chips, and eggs, with a generous handful of lightly cooked diced jalapeños and tomatoes throughout. It was a hefty portion, too. I could only eat about half. It still tasted good this morning when I gently reheated the leftovers.
Mystic Mocha is a neighborhood favorite despite the hidden location. It can get crowded, especially on weekends, but the low prices, good food and and friendly service more than make up for it.
