It's Food Trucks to the Rescue in UTC

I often find myself pondering the manner in which food trucks fit into the local dining scene. Simply by offering product to diners, they have their place. Yet often I struggle to see how food trucks meet specific needs of hungry San Diegans rather than solely those of the chefs and chauffeurs driving them. That changed this week, when I got wise to a local shopping mall's quagmire.

Westfield UTC is in the midst of a large-scale year-long renovation. Construction recently began and forced the mall to temporarily close down its food court, save for just three eateries. The solution? Rallying mobile kitchen reinforcements for daily duty at the circle in the parking lot in front of the mall's Sports Chalet storefront. This has to be the best utilization of gourmet food trucks I've seen and a good opportunity for customers.

Trucks are on-site weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be from now through mid November. Different trucks are there are on designated days. The schedule is as follows:

Mondays: Chop Sooey, Devilicious Tuesdays: Delicioso, Mangia Mangia Mobile, Ciao Cupcakes Wednesdays: Crazy Wheel, Operacaffe Mobile, Sweet Treats Thursedays: The Gathering Spot, Patty Melt, Ciao Cupcakes Fridays: Food Farm, Devilicious, Sweet Treats

To keep up with any updates to the schedule or new information, refer to Westfield UTC's website or follow @WestfieldUTC on Twitter.
