I heard about this from my friend Miles. He’s part of the band Red Wizard. They’re playing at the opening of a Smashburger in Vista this Wednesday (1711 University Drive, Suite 150, 760-630-0005). Opening’s from 5.30 p.m. till 8:30 p.m.
This Smashburger is becoming one huge chain. In a couple dozen states. Looks like it’s pitching to the slightly upper crust of burger joints. They start at five bucks.
Specialties? They have one veggie burger ($5.29). And the “San Diego” ($6.99, or $7.29 for a large) tips the hat to the region with adds like avocado, cilantro, onions, pepper jack, sour cream, and chipotle mayo and yes, a wedge of lime.
Hmm. Almost went in to their downtown joint the other day (801 Market Street, 619-241-2207). Now I guess I’m curious about that San Diego sandwich. And how come these guys are spreading like ice plant across the country.
Because you’d think, hard times, the guys selling $2 burgers would be doing best. Only the taste will tell…
