With roughly 500 events from pint nights to festivals and all-out, multi-venue fermentable free-for-alls, San Diego Beer Week can be confusing…and that’s before you start drinking. Fortunately, I know a thing or two about craft beer and our local scene. As such, I'm doling out info on some of the most special and significant goings-on during this 10-day span. Feel something incredible is missing? Comment and help get the word out there. With so many great events, narrowing them down to five per day can be challenging, if not impossible.
DAY SEVEN | Thursday, November 10
5 p.m. – Cask Ale Fest On a good night, quality bars will offer one or two casks. On this night, O’Brien’s Pub will have five casks filled with Alpine Hoppy Birthday, Ballast Point Habañero Sculpin IPA and Coronado Blue Bridge Coffee Stout plus beer chili and award-winning apple pie from their Julian offshoot, Bailey BBQ. Details
5 p.m. – New Belgium Barrel Night Brewer Jamie Mastin will hit North County standout Churchill’s Pub to share an oak barrelful of peach whiskey-tinged sour beer and other specialty beers from his home base at Colorado’s renowned New Belgium Brewing and share in the Raider hatin’ fun as the Bolts play in prime time. Details
6 p.m. – Ballast Point & Stone Brewmasters Dinner Five courses, ten beers and two local brewers done good. Ballast Point’s Colby Chandler and Stone’s Mitch Steele will lend their beers and commentary to a banquet at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens where each course features their beers, including Indra Kunindra Curry Stout and Double Bastard Ale. Details
6:30 p.m. – A Taste of Sonoma Some events don’t need to be complicated or over-the-top. Beer is good. Cheese is good. Versions of both of these indulgences plucked from Sonoma County’s Spring Hill Creamery and Lagunitas Brewing Company, including the latter’s 2010 Gnarlywine, will be celebrated at Bottlecraft in Little Italy. Details
6:30 p.m. – Hops & Nosh Dinner Follow the alluring aroma of Green Flash Brewing’s hoppy West Coast beers to the county’s newest beer-centric eateries. San Marcos’ Sublime Ale House is offering a five-course pairing dinner featuring West Coast IPA beer cheese soup, pork belly salad and beef filet with saison béarnaise sauce. Details
