With roughly 500 hundred events from pint nights to festivals and all-out, multi-venue fermentable free-for-alls, San Diego Beer Week can be confusing…and that’s before you start drinking. Fortunately, I know a thing or two about craft beer and our local scene. As such, I’ll be doling out info on some of the most special and significant goings-on during this ten-day span. Feel something incredible is missing? Comment and help get the word out there. Happy imbibing, SD.
DAY THREE | Sunday, November 6
11 a.m. – 3rd Annual Green Flash Smokeout The Linkery and Green Flash are teaming up to celebrate smoked meats and top notch suds. The latter group’s offerings includes casks of Le Freak and bourbon barrel-aged Barleywine. Cheer on the Chargers and revel in the fact that, win or lose, Green Bay ain’t got no Beer Week. Details
12 p.m. – The Resistance Release Party After 12 months of chardonnay and sauvignon blanc wine-barrel aging and bottle maturation, Vista’s Iron Fist Brewing is releasing their first wild ale. Dubbed The Resistance, only 137 cases and eight kegs were produced. It’s bound to go quick, so get it while you can. Details
1 p.m. – South to North County Craft Beer Crawl Local beer tour company BrewHop is helping beer drinkers branch out, taking North County folks south to Downtown Johnny Brown’s, Toronado, and Monkey Paw, while shuttling southerners to Churchill’s Pub, Stone World Bistro & Gardens, and Pizza Port Carlsbad. North Tour Details, South Tour Details
5 p.m. – AleSmith / CheeseSmith Pairing AleSmith owner and brewer Peter Zien is well known for his brewing prowess, but few know he’s a learned and accomplished cheesemaker working on opening an offshoot fromage biz. Where there’s a curd, there’s a way. Get a rare taste of his CheeseSmith wares at RB’s Urge Gastropub. Details
6:30 p.m. – An Evening with Colby Chandler Few brewers have won as many awards as Ballast Point’s Colby Chandler. The specialty brewer for the reigning Small Brewing Company of the Year, he’ll head to Kearny Mesa’s O’Brien’s Pub for a dinner featuring his favorite SD beers, including Alpine Pure Hoppiness and Ballast Point Smoking Indian.
