With hundreds of events (over 400 at the time of this writing) from pint nights to festivals and all-out, multi-venue fermentable free-for-alls, San Diego Beer Week can be confusing…and that’s before you start drinking. Fortunately, I know a thing or two about craft beer and our local scene. As such, I’ll be doling out daily info on some of the most special and significant goings-on during this ten-day span. Feel something incredible is missing? Comment and help get the word out there. No matter what, get out there and have some fun and great beer!
DAY ONE | Friday, November 4
9 a.m. – Karl Strauss Brew Your Own Beer Brunch Enjoy a live specialty-beer-brewing session before joining Karl Strauss’ founders at the brewing company’s downtown location for a beverage-paired brunch featuring archived beers such as 21st Anniversary Ale brewed with Old Vine Zinfandel and 22nd Anniversary Vanilla Imperial Stout. Details
9 a.m. – Stone Rare Beer Breakfast If you’re gonna be driven to drink before noon, it should be for a really good reason. There are few better than the chance to gulp down rare numbers plucked from around the globe by one of the most well-connected guys in the industry, Stone beverage director Bill Sysak. Details
12 p.m. – Sour Night at Public Sessions Sour beers are gaining popularity but can still be tough to procure — particularly on tap. This Ocean Beach gastropub will be serving up six, including Ballast Point Sour Wench, Ommegang Aphrodite, and Dobvisson Peche Mel, as singular sippers or together as a tart tasting flight. Details
4:30 p.m. – Downtown Johnny Brown’s 3rd Annual Barrel-Aged Night Navigate around Occupy SDers to get to this Civic Center-entrenched craft beer bar and grill where kegs of rare barrel-aged beers such as the Bruery Cuir, Port Ad Lib, Bellegem Bruin Flander, and Ballast Point Three Sheets Barleywine will be there for enjoyment with complimentary edibles. Details
6:30 p.m. – San Diego’s Top Brewers Book Launch Buy the new book detailing the story of our region’s unmatched brewing culture and then meet the characters involved. Held at downtown’s Mission Brewery, this is perhaps the best chance to get face time and an autograph from SD’s illustrious cast of award-winning brewers. http://sdbw.org/events/2379/
