Celebrating the World's Most Celebrated Small Brewing Company

The initials BP may conjure negative feelings for most Americans, but when it comes to San Diegans, those letters evoke images of (and a hankering for) the fine quaffs of the reigning Best Small Brewing Company in the World, Ballast Point. Shortly after earning that prestigious title at the 2010 World Beer Cup, San Diego City Council's (a group who surely have their fair share of justification for a beer or twenty) saw fit to decree May 18, 2010 Ballast Point Day in recognition of that significant feat.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of that momentous occasion, Ballast Point's number one account, The High Dive in Bay Park, will be hosting a total tap takeover where 20-plus of the brewery's beers will be available. This will include special, hard-to-find numbers like a habañero-laced version of their citrusy award-winning Sculpin IPA as well as Barmy, a South African apricot-infused ale based on an ancient recipe, and barrel-aged versions of fan faves like Victory at Sea Imperial Porter, Tongue Buckler Imperial Red and Sea Monster Imperial Stout.

Also be on the lookout for Ballast Point Spirits' Old Grove Gin (named after the road in Scripps Ranch where BP's main brewery and lone distillery is located) and Three Sheets Rum, which will make their way into specialty cocktails like the Latin Manhattan and a Cucumber Gimlet accented with elder flower liqueur.

The good times kick-off at 5 p.m. Other value-addeds such as food specials and the presence of BP's much acclaimed brewers will sweeten the deal, but when there's this much world class hooch, all you really need is a pint glass.
