It's the only drink I could order that would make my father blush. That's why, when I go to Baja Betty's with Dad, I whisper the order as an aside to our server. Fortunately, on my recent visit (with David and my sister Jane), I didn't have to be so reserved. I don't order it for the name, but for the taste -- Butterscotch Schnapps with a "floater" of Baileys and a dollop of whipped cream on top.
It's just a shot, but it's filled with salty, sweet, liquory flavor. Many people are familiar with the Blow Job shot, which contains Bailey's and amaretto. Because this is a twist on that one, it's called the Cocksucker. Now you know why I won't say it in front of my father. Even the servers in this boisterous gay-friendly establishment seem taken aback when I shout out my order for my favorite shot. They should come up with an "acceptable in mixed company" nickname for it.
As I'm sipping my shot (so tasty I don't shoot it, and so decadent I rarely order more than one), I nibble on the chips and salsa.
Though I've tasted and enjoyed most things on the menu, my latest craving has been tacos. Particularly fish tacos. I've been tasting them all over town, and the ones at this joint are among my favorite.
I get them without the "baja cream sauce" because it's mayonnaise-based, and I really, really don't like mayo. But this last time, I ordered a side of sour cream, and that, along with Cholula, seemed to do the trick. The lunch specials include a ceasar salad on the plate and a crispy triangle coated in cinnamon and sugar for desert. David's go-to Mexican dish is a carnitas plate, so he ordered the lunch special with carnitas.
Great. Now I'm craving Mexican food. And dirty words.
