Manzanita One-Year Anniversary Offers Heat-Beating Option

With temperatures registering in the sweltering range, their may be no community better suited or more appreciative of a beer festival than Santee. That's where Manzanita Brewing Company makes a lot out of their little piece of real estate, the "E" space in the businesspark at 9962 Prospect Avenue. It takes multiple daily brewing sessions to make their close quarters environs work, but somehow they pump out plenty of suds and have managed to create one of the most inviting and visually appealing tasting rooms in the entire county. Now if only it was air conditioned!

It's a safe bet that the miniscule yet pretty space will be packed to the gills on Saturday when Manzanita celebrates its first anniversary. Stocked with suds-sopping sups from supporters, including the Devilicious and Chop Soo-ey food trucks, the environment will be just right for downing liquid nods to Manzanita's hometown like Gillespie Brown and Riverwalk Blonde.

Other, non-geographically significant, yet wholly notable brews like the 100-plus IBU (International Bittering Unit...the gauge for how hoppy a beer is) Chaotic Double IPA (India Pale Ale...the beer world's hoppiest variety) and Controlled Burn Breakout, a pale ale brewed with serrano chiles.

The event starts at 1 p.m. Admission is $5, which includes five four-ounce samples poured into a take-home glass emblazoned with Manzanita's stylishly woodsy logo. All proceeds will go directly to Beer for Boobs to help support the fight against breast cancer.
