The chef-owner of Andiamo Italian Restaurant (5950 Santo Road, 858-277-3501) is Javier Ugarte from Peru, and on July 30 he's featuring the foods of his homeland in a four-course dinner for $32.
Peru probably has the best food in western South America (at least in my experience. There are good dishes everywhere, but Peru just has more of them, more consistently -- as you might expect from the former heart of the rich Inca empire.
The menu starts with chupe (seafood chowder) and moves on to a choice of main courses, including a "seco" (cilantro-rich stew) of lamb. It you love cilantro, it'll likely rank with one of the best stews you've tasted. Another choice includes a "lasagna" creation based on traditional ahi de gallina, a rich chicken dish -- and for piscaterians, "antojitos" (skewers) of grilled fish.
Reservations highly advised.
