Moo-ve over, Elvis: MooTime Creamery

I can't go to Coronado without a visit to MooTime Creamery. I know it's sort of touristy, there will probably be a long line, and there are trendier, hipper shops and gelaterias around, but sometimes I just want a nice, big, creamy scoop or two. Plus, you can't beat a place that has a giant cow AND a giant Elvis outside the door.

It's a little chilly out, there's not much of a line. I get a scoop of double dark chocolate and toasted coconut. John opts for caramel and stracciatella. The bill is $8.30 for the both of us. Not bad for four generous scoops.

The double dark chocolate is the devil's own concoction - full of rich cocoa and chocolate flavor. The toasted coconut is just as rich tasting, with large flakes of coconut and little chunks of what I think are frozen coconut cream. They blend well too, so when they start to melt together it's like a Mounds candy bar, only better. John's caramel is delicious - it's not just vanilla ice cream with a ribbon of caramel sauce - the ice cream has a buttery caramel flavor too. The stracciatella is a little too homogenized for me, I prefer it with chunkier bits of chocolate, but it's still pretty good.

I can't think of a nicer way to end an evening out than strolling down Orange Avenue with a nightcap of sweet, melty Mootime.
